I have visited all 21 Carroll Castles in Ireland, and researched items in the State Papers relating mostly to the Ely O'Carroll family. When I visited Ballybritt the owner asked me "Are you one of these terrible Carrolls?" Apparently the remains of bodies had been found on his land at various times.

My Great-Grandfather was William Patrick Carroll, (born O'Carroll, according to family legend, though he had to drop the O in order to enter the country... something to do with quotas, the story goes) and I was thrilled to find your web page... I've been trying to research my family genealogy, and this is the first real information I've found about the Carroll's - O'Carrolls. 

My daughter found this site. We are in the process of tracing our family tree and have found I'm the 25th direct line descendent of Florence O'Carroll, King of Ely (if the information is correct, or course). Anyway, we live in California, U.S.A. and I find this family history all very interesting. Mike

Looking for a Henry Carroll or relations arrived in the United States from Ireland Co. Mayo around 1920 may have been fleeing the law (British). My fathers uncle! Any help would be appreciated.

Very interesting site. I have for some time been aware of the O'Connor Keenaught connection to Clan Cian, but have always suspected that a lot of myth was involved in what appears to be a tenuous link to Derry in the north of Ireland.
