Hey everyone,
This is a call to all you pipers out there or to anyone who know's a piper.
We need to get your e-mail addresses or phone numbers so as to have a list of pipers who are willing to play at special events like wedding's or at funerals (gettings away's). So no matter where you live in the world send the addy's and phone number's to us at Clan Cian. Send them to seamusjames@yahoo.com or call them in to us at 1-831-443-9716. It doesn't matter if you are a pipe band or a lone piper. Irish bands or bands who know Irish tunes send your addy's too.
This is important to us. We feel it is important to alot of us. Help us with this new data base.
Slan

Just saw the site and thought I'd say hi. I'm Irish and have a great fondness of the American people. I'm not big on the government though, - too violent. Anytime I've been in the States your people have shown me great hospitality. Your warm and instant friendship is never forgotten. Yours sincerely- Cian Dempsey

All I know of my geneology is that I'm of Irish descent and:
I was born in Philadelphia, PA on Sept. 16, 1960.
My father, Thomas Patrick Carroll was born in 1929 (in Philadelphia as well, I think.) His parents were William and Eleanor (not sure though, I never met them)
My mother, Frances M. Carroll (nee McDonough) was born in 1941 in Philadelphia.

If anyone recognizes any of these names or has come across them in searches please drop me a line. I've *very* limited knowledge on my family history.

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction to find my Great-grandfather's antecedents. His name was Joseph George Carroll, born in Limerick circa 1843, son of John and Ann (or possibly Anna---she's thought to have been a German). He migrated to Australia, apparently with some of his siblings, but no-one seems to know when: I think he must have been jealous of his privacy, because he didn't volunteer the information in his marriage certificate or my grandfather's birth certificate!

Anyway, Joseph married Mary Ann Passfield at Tamworth in New South Wales in 1877; shortly afterwards, they moved to Launceston in Tasmania, where my grandfather, also Joseph George, was born in January, 1879. There were 4 other surviving children, namely Annie, Richard, Alice and Dora, born between about 1881 and 1899.

Joseph owned and operated saddlery and leathergoods factories in Launceston and Sydney, and for a time owned a pub in central New South Wales. He died in Sydney in 1923.

Apparently Joseph kept in touch with his family in Ireland through a brother named William (a bachelor and apparently a bit of a spendthrift, who made several visits to Australia to avoid his creditors!).

Does this story ring a bell with anyone?
